Andy Huggins: Thirty Years
Recovery Comedy: What made you decide to become a stand up comedian?
Andy Huggins: At the risk of sounding too romantic, I don’t believe I had any choice.
Andy Huggins: Bill got sober two months before me and went to meetings together in downtown Houston (1988), It was always a crucial element of our friendship.
Recovery Comedy: How has your comedy changed since you got into recovery?
Andy Huggins: I don’t a specific message that I’m aware of.
Andy Huggins: Woody Allen is my stand-up idol.
Andy Huggins: Recovery audiences, are without exception, a joy.
Recovery Comedy: Where does your inspiration for material come from?
Andy Huggins: I’m inspired by what it takes just to get through life every day.
Recovery Comedy: What is your joke writing process?
Andy Huggins: I do my best writing when I am walking. I try to write (and walk) every day.
Andy Huggins: Writing more than performing heals my wounds. it may be the entire process.
Recovery Comedy: What was your worst experience performing comedy?
Andy Huggins: I was fired once(I forget where) for being drunk on stage.
Recovery Comedy: What was your best experience performing comedy?
Andy Huggins: 1986-Charlie Goodnight’s with Bill and Jimmy Pineapple. The shows were epic and we laughed so much off-stage. We were all still drinking but it was about deep friendship which in turn was crucial in our respective recoveries.
Andy Huggins: Steady work is the dream, my man. Steady work.
