Recovery Comedy is proud to present Dave Dubroff

Recovery Comedy presents Dave Dubroff   Biography

After a lifetime of drug and alcohol abuse, crime, and prisons, Dave Dubroff found recovery in 1991 and began to find out what being “high on life” meant.
Dave had secretly dreamed of taking to the stage his whole life but the voices in his head told him he wasn’t good enough, but after 18 months of meetings, service, step work and (oh my Lord NO!) working, he began to believe in himself and the message of recovery.
Within a year Dave was headlining 12 step fund raisers, special events and conventions all over the country and having the time of his life.
Sadly, in 2003 Dave developed several debilitating health problems many of them neurological, making it impossible for Dave to continue performing.
After 5 years of grueling physical rehabilitation and the unfounded fear that his health was stopping him from performing, Dave shut those voices and once again returned to his one true love, comedy.
Today Dave wheels out onto the stage with a walker jokingly referring to himself as a lean-up comedian. Audiences are inspired by the fact that nothing has stopped Dave from pursuing his dreams, and they ask themselves, “If he can do that, what’s stopping me?”
Dave believes his work needs to reflect his recovery and his message.  Dave refuses to work in nightclubs or anywhere that alcohol or any other drug is available.
“I want to be part of the solution, not the problem”, he says.
Daves comedy is almost exclusively about the disease and recovery through the 12 steps. Dave also has a thorough understanding of the 12 traditions and shows respect for the program he's performing for by using their language exclusively throughout the show.

“Dave has passionate writing and powerful timing”
Mark Lundholm
